How to perfect your stick and poke technique.

Posted on January 06 2021

Before we start, its essential that you use a certified, sterile professional tattoo needle. In comparison to poorly designed and packaged made-in-china needles, professional needles carry little to no risk in terms of infection. For the small saving you may make, the risk to your health simply isn't worth it.

Begin by dipping the sharp end of your tattoo needle into the ink you wish to use. Using the sharp end of the needle, begin to poke the area of the skin. You should poke repetitively and with low pressure, wiping away excess ink as you go along.

After you have completed the general outline of your design, begin to work your way inwards and progress towards the completion of the tattoo.

As we have mentioned in previous blogs, its absolutely crucial you don't touch anything else with your gloved hands. This can lead to infection which is a no no for all users of our beloved community.

After the completion of your design, throw away your needle safely. All needles that are used during the design process must be new and sterile. Once again, this helps reduce any associated risk.

Overall, although it does depend on the size of the tattoo, stick and poke designs will generally take longer than machine tattoos. However, the end result is worth it!
