1500+ 5 STAR REVIEWS - SERVING THE STICK AND POKE TATTOO COMMUNITY SINCE 2016

Herbie Handpoke

I have been tattooing only for ten months. Digging it and really interested in the Hand Poke art for more than a year, but actually tattooing only for ten months, so my bio is really short.

Was Hand Poke tattooing something you went to after machine tattooing, or has the hand poke style always been your preferred method?

HH: I started doing Hand Poke from the beginning, and it's the technique that I like most and the one in which I think I can contribute more, but now I'm also starting to do things with the machine and I'm really interested too.

What was it like the first time you put needle and ink to skin?

HH: The first time it was on my own skin. I wanted to put into practice all the information that I had been studying. From that moment I knew that it was the beginning of something exciting. I opened an Instagram account and people started to get more and more interested in my own tattoos. Later on I started to get assignments and I currently do a couple of tattoos per week.

Have you always been a tattoo artist?

HH: As I mentioned before I've been doing this for only ten months, although I've been connected to the tattoo world in some way for a long time. My main occupation is music producer.

Do you have any memorable/ funny stories you can tell?

HH: You always come across funny situations. Once I met a tattoo artist from Montreal. She came to Madrid and we arranged to interchange tattoos, I would do one for her and she would do one for me. After five hours of her working on mine I could only take six minutes of her technique, so she couldn't do her work.

So Single Needle Tattoo Kits, I believe that home tattooing is inherently risky, but people have, and will continue to tattoo themselves, therefore making a safe and affordable kit is the way forward... What's your take on this?

HH: Of course! To me risk is crucial when working with somebody. It's really important to take into account the possible dangers of manipulating ink in skin. My advice is not to take this topic lightly. I think it's great that the client feels confident and safe when they see that the tattoo artist knows what they're doing.
