My name is Eleonora, I am an Italian illustrator, fashion designer, and handpoke tattoo artist based in Milan. Drawing has always been my passion, my main way of expression. My whole childhood has been motivated by a profound curiosity: always looking for secret treasures and hidden micro cosmos, totally fascinated by the silent life of nature around me. When I draw, I’m always communicating something intimate. Often, people come to me looking for a way to animate in actual figures on their skin, concepts, feelings and perceptions that can’t be really described with words. My illustrations are full of metaphors and symbolisms that allow me to go beyond reality and extend to the dreamy and surreal world of imagination. Botany , biology, entomology, anatomy, alchemy, symbolism, and metamorphosis are elements that are widely present in my works.

Was hand poke tattooing something you went to after machine tattooing, or has the hand poke style always been your preferred method?
I’ve always been a tattoo lover and I have many machine tattoos on my skin. The precise moment I decided to get to the other side of the needle, I was in the middle of moving. I remember I was sitting on the floor, resting, surrounded by boxes and stuff. I can’t really explain where the thought came from but I remember thinking that I knew I had to dedicate myself to tattooing and that iI would do it by hand. After three years of hand-poking I’m actually thinking about trying machine tattooing (damn curiosity never leaves me alone!).

What was it like the first time you put needle and ink to skin?
Just a few days after my decision, I called a tattooer friend so that he could help me out with the tools and with setting good hygienic conditions. I met with him and ready to go! My first tattoo was, commonly enough, on my own leg. It’s a set of very basic symbols but to me it was my Number Zero, my new beginning! Unforgettable!

Have you always been a tattoo artist?
Not at all. I’ve always been a fashion designer and I’m still doing both jobs. As of now, I’m really working hard in the direction so that tattooing becomes my main focus and job.
So Single Needle Tattoo Kits, I believe that home tattooing is inherently risky, but people have, and will continue to tattoo themselves, therefore making a safe and affordable kit the way forward… what’s your take on this?
I was very lucky to be introduced to the magic world of tattooing by a professional tattooer but I understand that not everyone has this chance. My suggestion, in general, is to treat others the way you would like to be treated by them and to be well-informed. Today you can educate yourself more easily than in the past so if you’re going for home tattooing, keep in mind that it’s not a game and that hygiene is very important and that a lack of it can bring to
serious consequences.
