1500+ 5 STAR REVIEWS - SERVING THE STICK AND POKE TATTOO COMMUNITY SINCE 2016

Yalabes

I’ve always been keen into arts and crafts, having most of my curiosity for life being enjoyed trough expressive disciplines, this moment I find myself connecting with it through tattooing.

Have you always been a tattoo artist?

Before tattooing I was dedicating all my time to being a musician, having released a couple albums and played live in different places around the world. One day, trough a friend that is a tattoo artist (@isra108) who used to make most of my tattoos, I got the chance to make one by myself. I fell in love with it at that moment and started practicing and drawing nonstop since then.

What was it like the first time you put needle to skin?

It was around 11pm, I was in my room with an improvised learning kit that was given to me and really wanted to try out. I set up everything as hygienically as possible and drew an Om on my palm. It all faded away in 3 months so I had to remake it to have it stay :) It was a lot more like playing than something scary

Do you have any memorable/ funny stories you can tell?

Being a slower process, one time I got the chance to make a full sleeve, I’m very thankful for the trust and patience to handle more than 30 sessions for a big piece in more than a year.

Why do you prefer hand-poking to machine tattooing?

The connection I felt trough silence and patience is not the same as I got the one time a did a machine tattoo. I'm very open too learn more about machines someday though.

What would you recommend to someone who wanted to start tattooing?

Study, be respectful, work in a hygienic manner and do follow ups of your work, it’s very important to know how our work heels and develops through time.

Do you have any tips or tricks when it comes to hand poke tattooing?

Patience! Everything else is practice.

So Single Needle Tattoo Kits, I believe that home tattooing is inherently risky, but people have, and will continue to tattoo themselves, therefore making a safe and affordable kit is the way forward... What's your take on this?

As long as it is practiced in a safe, clean and respectful manner, I think is a good thing. I respect someone that doesn’t need permission to start learning something and it’s good to try it on yourself at first. (With permission, I mean being needed to be taught or instructed before the first time).
